Drying Rooms Container Ireland: How Drying and Changing Rooms Can Work Together on Construction Sites

Rain is part of working life in Ireland. For construction teams, wet jackets, boots and workwear can quickly become a daily problem.

A Drying Rooms Container gives workers somewhere practical to change, hang wet clothing and prepare for the next shift. When drying and changing facilities work together, you can create a cleaner, more organised welfare area without building a permanent facility.

In 2026, that practical planning matters. The CSO reported that construction production rose 0.4% between Q1 and Q2 2026. Residential building increased 5.5%, while civil engineering increased 3.1%.

Why combine drying and changing facilities?

Drying and changing may sound like separate requirements. In practice, they can work better when planned together.

Workers need somewhere to change out of wet or dirty clothing. They also need suitable space to store and dry workwear. Keeping these activities close together can make the working day simpler.

The Health and Safety Authority (HSA) says sites with more than five people should have enclosed accommodation for shelter and drying wet clothes. It also says appropriate changing rooms should be provided where workers need special work clothes and cannot reasonably change elsewhere.

For projects using personal protective clothing, the HSA highlights the need for accommodation and arrangements to dry clothing when it becomes wet.

A Drying Rooms Container can therefore form part of a wider welfare plan. It isn't a substitute for assessing your specific requirements. However, it can provide a practical way to bring key facilities together.

What should a combined facility include?

There isn't one layout that suits every construction site. Your workforce, site layout, project length and type of work all matter.

Shipcon's drying and changing solutions can include dedicated space for wet workwear, coat hooks, benches, heating, insulation and secure access. Its wider welfare units can also incorporate changing rooms, drying rooms, rest areas, toilets and office space.

A useful arrangement might give workers a clear place to enter, remove wet clothing, change, and hang workwear. Good layout matters because cramped facilities can become difficult during busy shift changes.

The goal is simple: make the Drying Rooms Container fit the way your team actually works.

When does a Drying Rooms Container make sense?

A Drying Rooms Container can suit several types of worksites.

Construction projects are an obvious example. Outdoor teams can face rain, wind and changing temperatures throughout the day.

Civil engineering projects can face similar conditions, particularly where teams work away from permanent buildings.

Industrial sites may also need dedicated welfare space without taking workers into operational areas.

Temporary contractor compounds can benefit too. You can add a practical welfare facility for the project and remove it when the work finishes.

Shipcon offers both hire and sales options. That gives you flexibility for a short project, longer development, or ongoing requirement.

How does this fit with Irish construction in 2026?

Ireland's construction workforce and project pipeline make practical site planning increasingly important.

A March 2026 Government report highlighted continued construction workforce demand linked to housing, climate action and infrastructure. The Government also updated its Careers in Construction Action Plan in January 2026 to support the sector's workforce needs.

That doesn't mean every project needs a larger welfare unit. It does mean contractors should plan facilities around real workforce requirements.

As teams grow, one small welfare unit may no longer be enough. You might need separate or connected areas for drying, changing, eating, meetings, administration and storage.

Planning these facilities early can help you avoid solving welfare requirements after the site is already operating.

Drying and changing facilities across Ireland

Shipcon Ltd is based in Tyrrellspass, Co. Westmeath, beside the M6, and provides nationwide delivery.

Its service covers projects across Westmeath, Offaly, Meath, Longford, Cavan and Leitrim, as well as Kildare, Dublin, Louth, Tipperary and Roscommon.

Whether your project is in Westmeath or Dublin, or further away in Offaly, Tipperary or Roscommon, the planning questions remain similar.

How many workers will use the facility? What workwear needs drying? How long will you need it? Where can the unit be positioned?

Shipcon can discuss delivery and positioning requirements as part of the planning process. Its truck and crane capabilities can help transport and position containers and modular cabins.

What other site facilities might you need?

Drying and changing facilities are often one part of a complete welfare setup.

Shipcon also supplies canteen containers, site offices, storage containers, anti-vandal cabins and custom container modifications.

A canteen container gives workers somewhere to eat, take refreshments and have proper breaks away from the work area.

A site office provides space for managers, supervisors and administrative work.

Storage containers help keep tools, materials and equipment separate from welfare areas.

Anti-vandal cabins offer a robust option for demanding construction and industrial environments.

If a standard unit doesn't match your site, Shipcon can also discuss custom container modifications.

A practical checklist before you order

Before choosing a Drying Rooms Container, consider these questions:

How many people will use it each day?
Do workers need both changing and drying space?
What workwear or PPE needs to be dried?
How long will the project last?
Where can the unit be positioned safely?
Do you need other welfare facilities nearby?
Would hiring or buying suit the project?

Answering these questions first makes it easier to choose a setup that works in practice.

Shipcon can help you discuss these requirements before deciding on a solution.
